Why are the humble mushrooms being hailed as Super food?

Though Mushrooms are there around for centuries, they have been overlooked by the masses. But now Mushrooms are gaining greater attention and people are scrambling to eat them as researchers indicate the high nutritional and medicinal values of Mushrooms, the reason why they are now being ranked among the ‘Super Foods’ such as broccoli, blue berries, and honey.

Research studies have proved that mushroom can prevent heart disease and cancer, particularly breast cancer. They have no fat, no sugar, and no salt. But they are a rich source of dietary fiber and vitamins such as thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6) and folate. Mushrooms are also found to contain essential minerals potassium, copper, phosphorus, iron and selenium. Selenium is generally not found in many fruits and vegetables. Mushrooms can be added to dishes such as stews and it can be really filling without adding calorie content.
